You're invited to spend a summer evening - Victorian style! Croquet, Badminton, and other activities will highlight how people in the past spent their leisure time.
Croquet took the Victorian world by storm! The game was popular for many reasons, but especially because men and women could play and compete together. Rivalry was fierce, and accusations of cheating were just part of the fun. Women in particular were targeted for cheating as sometimes their long skirts “accidentally” moved a ball to their advantage. But croquet was not the only option for relaxing summer evenings.
This family-oriented program will include a brief introduction to the games people played, and provides participants with the opportunity to try their hand at experiencing Victorian leisure activities. A short presentation will open the evening, and the games begin!
River Park Lawn of the Grundy Museum on Friday, August 11, 2023 from 6pm - 8pm.
This is a FREE family program. Come dressed in your victorian inspired summer attire. Light refreshments will be provided or bring your own picnic snacks. Please no alcohol.
